My life has been nothing short of hectic, and instead of addressing it and going mad, I thought I’d do this instead. I came across this “tag”, if you will, about a year ago on Lucy Moon’s (fav) video ‘Soundtrack To My Life’ and I remember loving the concept, recording and editing my own then changing my mind about it right when it was almost done uploading. Typical Hiba. *cue sitcom shot of me sighing* So instead, I’ve combined her tag with a bunch of others I found online so !!! ain’t no harm in finally satisfying my (cold but Spotify-obsessed) heart and doing it here!
P.S. You can find all these tracks at the bottom of this post, so give that shiz a listen and let me know what you think, imaginary reader friend.
What do you listen to when you’re sad (and indulging in self-pity)
My ultimate sad-vibes tunes would have to be by Lana del Rey, for many obvious reasons. From Summertime Sadness to Dark Paradise, the trance-like nature of her melodies just makes me feel like I’m floating. Some oldies but goodies in this department would be:
- Parachute by Jaymes Young (goddamn)
- Landfill by Daughter (i’m not a crier, but damn)
- and more recently Give Me One Reason by Tracy Chapman
- and Luving U by 6LACK.
- and Somebody Else by The 1975
- and Heaven In Hiding by Halsey
- …and I’m done, I promise.
What track would you play at your wedding
Unfortunately, I’m gonna have to agree with Lucy here and be unoriginal, but We by Mac Miller (ft. CeeLo Green) is an absolute winner. I’m not a wedding planner type of gal, but if I ever was to, that would be #1 on my list of requirements.
What track do you dance around to at home
The thing is, I get real hyped to music I can’t really dance to. So instead I’m just aggressively nodding my head and tapping my feet. But some absolute dance-able bangers would be:
- Icon by Jaden Smith
- Waste My Time by Russ
- Feel It Still by Portugal. The Man
- Bad Habit by The Kooks
- Formula Apei by Carla’s Dreams (love love love).
What do you listen to on your headphones when you’re out
Lately I made a hip hop playlist (ironically titled ‘soundtrack of my reality’) of my recent favorites and I’ve just been shuffling it every time I walk out of the house. But my favorites at the moment would be:
- Ms. Fat Booty by Mos Def
- Money Trees by Kendrick Lamar
- NATURALLY by Amir Obe (fav!)
What do you listen to when you’re angry
Superman or Amityville by Eminem. That’s all I gotta say.
What track would make you lose your shit at a party
To be honest, I always lose my shit if I can listen to Eminem without having to play it myself because I will happily kill any party to listen to that shit. So if The Real Slim Shady or Without Me pops up anywhere, I die. Also:
- GOLD DIGGER by KANYE WEST
- In Da Club by 50 Cent (I’m easy to satisfy, I guess)
- Anything by Drake
- Anything by Rihanna
- somebody please take me to a hip hop and r&b venue so i don’t have to think about my exams, thank you.
Who would you love to see live
The Arctic Monkeys, The 1975 and Halsey are very much up there for me, primarily because I’m a big fan of the shit they have out now so if I wait any longer, there’s a chance I will be disappointed, and because I didn’t get to see Nirvana live, I’m not prepared to be disappointed. This list could be as long as my playlists are, but I’ll stop there for now.
What track would you do karaoke to
Since I’ve already done The Real Slim Shady, Superman and Without Me at karaoke already, I’d like to try my hand at Teenage Dirtbag by Wheatus, because I performed it while I was in a high school band and that was a key moment of my high school cliched experience, so why not relive that shit???
What do you workout to
Lol. So when I used to workout regularly, I’d listen to whatever I could pace myself to. Which was usually grime because I’m an overachiever and that bpm gon have you losing weight by no time. But I’d say:
- Big For Your Boots and Cold by Stormzy
- Man and Shutdown by Skepta
- Max B and Goldie by A$AP Rocky
What track(s) bring up the most memories
This has got to be the hardest one…in no particular order:
- Ocean Drive by Duke Dumont
- Youth and Smother by Daughter
- Ride Slow by Russ
- Double O.T. by CES Cru
- goosebumps by Travis Scott
- Sub Pielea Mea by Carla’s Dreams
…and too many more
What’s your guilty pleasure track
Hands down, New Rules by Dua Lipa was my guilty pleasure jam for a while. And also I Mean It by G-Eazy and It Wasn’t Me by Shaggy (this list is near-infinite so I’m gonna stop myself right here)
What was the first record you bought
Hilariously, Good Girl Gone Bad by Rihanna was my first CD and Nevermind by Nirvana was my first record!
What was your first gig
Ed Sheeran! And he played Give Me Love and it broke me inside but it was one of the most beautiful things to witness live.
What track do you wish you wrote
Nah, this is the real hard one. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill by Ms. Lauryn Hill or on a more contemporary note, Do I Wanna Know by the Arctic Monkeys.
What track is your f a v o r i t e of all time
This is an impossible question to answer and we all know that (!!!)
Well, that was refreshing! Below you’ll find a playlist of all of these tracks (even though there’s no real running theme, so just tap shuffle and go mental! Gotta keep it spicy, right?
